Fall 2012

Fall in Colorado is always fun and beautiful and this year was no exception.  We enjoyed our time outdoors, Halloween, a trip to the mountains, a special baptism for a special boy, and an amazing birthday bash for the boys.

In late August we had some time to head to the zoo and check out the new exhibit and enjoy the weather.  We loved seeing Alex really enjoy running around and seeing all the animals and Aiden pointing things out for him.  We are so blessed to have a such sweet boys.  The Denver Zoo is great and we are so grateful we purchased a membership so we can enjoy it for an hour or all day without worrying about a thing.

Taking the train to see the sights.

In October we were invited to go to a family cabin of one of Jay's Wells Fargo friends.  They have 3 boys so there was plenty of fun and craziness to be had.  The car ride was longer than Alex would have liked but he finally fell asleep so then it was quite pleasant.  The trees were just gorgeous near Kenosha Pass and there were so many leave seekers on the highway.

As we neared the cabin that was very much in the middle of nowhere forest we saw a MOOSE!!  Can you believe it?  We couldn't either but it sure was and it was HUGE!  I think that was probably the coolest thing.  The cabin is secluded and it was silent and the sky was wide open.  The night we got there we had a bonfire and made s'mores of course.  The boys found the wood for the fire and the men chopped it.  We hung out for awhile until we had enough of the boys and sent them to bed and surprisingly they fell asleep quickly and the moms headed to bed too.  The men stayed up around the fire for hours and talked for hours like teenage girls. :-)

The next morning we has a yummy breakfast and just hung out and let the boys play and do boy stuff.  Alex was a nightmare because he was tired from a less than par nights sleep and wanted to do everything he couldn't while outside.  I finally got him to nap for an hour so I did too.  Meanwhile, the dads took the older boys on a ride on the 4 wheeler thingy and came back just in time for lunch.  I grilled the chicken to perfection (of course...I'm just saying I'm a great griller) and we enjoyed some grilled chicken sandwiches and then we started packing up.  Unfortunately we couldn't stay another night because of our church callings on Sunday but we are so glad we got to enjoy it while we could.
I sure hope we get to go another time or maybe we can build our own cabin someday.

During General Conference weekend we headed up to Red Rocks for a nice Sunday trip.  It took 20 minutes and we were amongst many looking for a Sunday excursion.  We listened to a group of Bongo drummers drum, if you will.  We walked down the amphitheatre stairs in no time but it took twice as long to get back up them.  They are quite steep and huge and are ominous.  I have done some stair training on them (yes, years ago not lately) and they are brutal. I am in love with Colorado's beauty and so grateful we live even closer to the mountains.

Next on our agenda was Halloween.  I do NOT like Halloween much but my kids do because of the candy...well isn't that the only reason to like Halloween?  Anyhow, Alex was a chicken.  He used the same costume Aiden had used when he was 2 too.  Aiden was a ninja.  We did some trick or treating around our neighborhood and it was a BLAST actually.  We also had a Ward party and we did some Truck or Treating.  Alex really liked going up to random people and getting candy, well really what person wouldn't.

So this year we celebrated the boys birthdays together again but waiting until November 3 to do it.  I prayed and prayed fall would hold out its beauty for one more week so we could have our traditional outdoor fiesta.  Well my prayers were answered and the weather was perfect!  The day started with Aiden's baptism and I will talk on that special occasion in a separate post. We had the party in Greeley at Jay's parent's home like its been for the previous 7 years.

We had yummy food and many friends.  Jay's sister and hubby were able to come from Utah for which we were so grateful.  Sena and David were so helpful in helping to get the party going and the details done.  We had a pinata that was indestructible and took 30 minutes to destroy but the kids( and some adults too) had fun working at it.

Our good friend who owns a bakery made the boys' cake and did a marvelous job and sadly there wasn't enough to gorge on.  I had also made some cone cakes that didn't last long or go very far.  Next year we will definitely be more prepared.  Its just cake is so good when its done right, right?
